Southport Psychology is a team of clinical psychologists conveniently located in South Calgary. We are pleased to be able to collaborate with WGM Psychology in order to provide increased access to effective psychological service across Calgary. We strive to provide a compassionate, non-judgmental approach to treatment that is based upon a well-rounded understanding of psychological theories and research.
All of the psychologists at Southport Psychology have completed PhD-level training, with years of advanced study and practice. Together, we have over 40 years of combined clinical experience! Our main therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which is an established gold-standard treatment for a wide range of issues. Our psychologists also draw on their experience in other therapeutic models, such as mindfulness, interpersonal therapy (IPT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), existential therapy, and solution-focused therapy. We believe it is important to work collaboratively with each client to create a tailored treatment plan that fits each person’s unique goals and strengths.
Each of our therapists has been trained to provide general psychological services, but has also developed individual areas of interest and expertise. The team at Southport Psychology is pleased to provide assessment and treatment for problems such as depression, trauma and PTSD, anxiety disorders (panic attacks, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, and OCD), substance addictions and behavioural addictions, work stress and return-to-work issues, grief and loss, childhood trauma, health problems (including chronic conditions, pain, and rehabilitation issues) and marital/relationship problems. Specific assessments are also provided, for issues such as ADHD, psycho-educational assessment, career planning, and personality. We provide services to adolescents, adults, and seniors from all faiths, races, and orientations.
At Southport Psychology, we understand that our clients are coming to us with challenging problems, and possibly at a time of confusion or even desperation. We look forward to the opportunity of coming alongside them, supporting them, and helping them chart a clear course towards better health, increased contentment, more self-reliance, and improved relationships. It is a pleasure to offer our expertise and support to help our clients discuss problems, explore new perspectives, practice new skills, and create more meaningful and satisfying lives.
